Update: |
The Hayman Fire is over, but the fire area is still a dangerous place. Hard rains can cause flooding and mudslides. Rocks are loose because vegetation that held them in place has burned away. Although many volunteer workdays have happened to stabilize soils and remove hazard trees from the most heavily used areas, many parts of the burned area are still unsafe. Rehabilitation efforts such as, seeding, mulching, clearing trails, building straw bale check dams, sandbagging to deter debris flows, and tree planting are still underway.

Area Closure: |
| Due to improved but still hazardous conditions, some areas are still closed to the general public. For more information, check with your local forest service or parks & recreation office. |

Hunting |

Firefighters battle the blaze near a highway. |
The Forest Service is particularly concerned about hunters who have licenses in Game Management Units 501 and 511. Portions of these units were burned and are restricted areas. The Colorado Department of Wildlife (DOW) has done an outstanding job of notifying license holders of wildfire closures. However, there is still concern that hunters may think their hunting area has unrestricted access. In fact, hazards presented by falling trees, flash floods and mudslides will worsen with fall storms. Please adhere to DOW restrictions, for your own safety and that of others.
