A fuel break was created along the road to Cheesman Reservoir. The Hayman Fire spread was a bit slowed by the fuel break because it was a few hundred feet wide. The area did, however, modify the fires intensity. The fire burned through this area as a surface fire allowing most of the thick-barked ponderosa pine to survive. Logs were felled along the contour and straw bales were staked into the draws as part of the emergency rehabilitation measures. The logs and straw bales are put in place to reduce the sediment coming from higher elevations that burned at higher intensity.
