Hi Meadow Fire

The Hi Meadow Fire started on June 12, 2000. The fire burned 10,970 acres and destroyed 51 homes. Fire suppression cost $4.8 million and $2.4 million was spent on emergency rehabilitation. Contour-log felling, light surface ripping and grass seeding from the emergency rehabilitation efforts are visible. The grasses and small plants reestablished within a year. Numerous snags (dead trees) dominate the landscape. It will be centuries before the area has a mature forest again.
