Water in the west has always been the lifeblood of these parched, arid lands. When Europeans first ventured into this land much of it would not have been able to provide for the fertile valleys we see now. Water has been diverted and put to use since the early days of mining. Now irrigators and municipals require this water for sustenance. Water that once ran through western slope lands now quench thirsts far off to the East. Engineering feats have brought water through mountains and over hills to the front range of Colorado.
